Northeastern Montana is legendary for its hunting -- even among other Montanans who claim some great hunting in their parts of the state, too.
The Fort Peck area offers some of Montana's best upland bird and waterfowl hunting. It has big mule deer and white-tailed deer. There are pronghorn antelope. And, if you head to the wilds of the C.M. Russell National Wildlife Refuge, you'll find some of the biggest elk that Big Sky Country has to offer.
This part of the state is also blessed with vast acreages of public land, owned by both the federal government through the Bureau of Land Management, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and by the state with its Department of Natural Resources and Conservation school trust lands.
To find places to hunt, you can contact the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks office in Glasgow and ask about its public access programs. You can also contact the state and federal agencies listed above that manage the public lands.
